Land & Water I II III

For this exhibtion three works were made "using the landscape as neither exactly the subject nor the background to the subject, but the description of an idea bound by tangible fragments" (W.H.Auden). The work explored alternative representations of our surroundings. Each work began with research outdoors, so they accurately reflect the experience of the environment they represent.

The imagery and the ideas for the work comes from research into the environmental history of the Firth of Forth and modern pressures effecting its ecology. Boer focused on the force of the tidal flow where the Firth narrows and Dempsey used observations from various patterns and found fragments along the coast.
